They all go around in circles: thoughts, doubts and anxiety. And they keep on recurring – at night in nightmares, during the day in paralysis by analysis. Josip Tijan alias Thymian describes this feeling that "nothing is working anymore" on his debut album "Rhythm of Doubt" released in July 2021. Each song focuses on a vicious circle the Zurich multi-instrumentalist found and finds himself in. "I Should Have Seen It Coming" deals with a burnout that is "knocking on the door", while "Ponavlja Se" – which Josip Tijan sings in his mother tongue Croatian – focuses on a fear of heights he has had since childhood. With his genre anchored in new wave and post punk, Thymian is influenced by bands such as Gold Class, Drab Majesty and Depeche Mode. His timeless sound is characterised by striking baritone vocals, driving basslines and reverb-heavy guitar melodies. With this, the promising newcomer also shares the key to breaking vicious thought circles: dance, of course, ideally in a circle!
