A TikTok video turned Molchat Doma's song "Sudno" into a viral sensation. In the summer of 2020, thousands danced to the sound of the post-punk band, not only in Belarus, but across the world. While the trio does not address current events in Belarus in their latest third album "Monument", their gloomy new wave songs, which are reminiscent of the sounds of Joy Division, The Human League or legendary Russian band Kino, create an atmosphere tinged with signs of conflict. The lyrics deal with loneliness, anxiety and (self-)alienation, a sound aesthetic fitting to the country's grey architecture and political stalemate. Molchat Doma are touring in the USA in spring 2022. The Minsk artists are much better known there than in their home country, where they are sometimes not even allowed to perform due to "lacking artistic level".
